The PSEMA Mentor Program pairs experienced practitioners with students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals under 30 who are working in, or working toward, emergency management, business continuity, and resilience. The first cohort starts in January 2027.

The program came out of VisionCast 2026. Three current and recent college students joined the discussion, and their questions about how to find a footing in this field made the need plain.

Mentors

Open to anyone with experience in emergency management, continuity, or resilience, whether in the private sector, a nonprofit, or government. You do not need to be a PSEMA member to mentor.

Mentees

Students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals ages 18 to 29, including those still finding their way in the industry.

What to Expect

The first cohort of the PSEMA Mentor Program runs for six months, from January through June 2027.

Sign up by December 15. We will match mentors and mentees based on the areas each person selects, how they prefer to meet, and location for in-person requests. Sign up by December 15, 2026, to be matched before the program starts. We will continue to match people who sign up after that date as mentors become available.

Kick-off: January 11, 2027. The program opens with a Zoom call for all mentors and mentees. We will walk through how the program works, and you will meet your match.

Meeting with your match. Mentors and mentees meet once a month, by video or in person. Mentees set the agenda: bring the questions, goals, and decisions you are working through. Mentors share what they have learned and point mentees to people and resources in the field.

Mid-March check-in. PSEMA will check in with all participants in mid-March. If a match is not working at any point, contact us at [email protected] and we will help.

Closing. The program wraps up in June with a closing call, where we gather feedback to shape the next cohort.

Conduct and confidentiality. All participants are expected to act professionally and respectfully. Conversations between mentors and mentees stay confidential.

There is no cost to participate as a mentor or a mentee.
